Not only can we build a website for you, we can teach you how to maintain it yourself if you want. It's not terribly hard, especially if you just have to change a few things every once in a while. If you don't have a web presence, you really need one if you have a business or even a hobby. Let Tech Support show you how easy it is to get yourself onto the web.

General Instruction

Tech Support provides instruction tailored to your specific needs. So you don't have to go through hours of classes for stuff you already know. The advantage to using our consulting or training services is that you only learn the stuff you need for your particular situation.

We can help you with all versions of the Windows operating systems, macOS, and Linux. Also applications like Quickbooks, Quicken, Microsoft Office (Word, Publisher, Excel, etc.), and Expression Web. If we have to learn a little to teach you, we can do that too. Because we don't know them all by heart. But there are many commonalities between software programs that are easy to see.

Browsers, Downloading and Uploading

If you choose this service we mostly teach you a little bit about the browser and a lot about what to watch for. Like how to tell a suspicious website from a good one, the difference between a secure site and one that is not, and how to set up your browser so it detects and prevents the invasion of at least some of the malicious software out there. We'll teach you how to search the web, and how to use some popular sites such as Facebook or Youtube.

We will also show you how to upload (although sites like Youtube make it pretty simple) and downloading, especially downloading software for your computer.

Memory Management (not yours, the computer's), Storage, Backups

We'll help you with hard drive selection, backup programs, and a backup system if you need one. There's some starting information HERE (data storage) and HERE (network attached storage). We also will be offering a Back Up Service soon when we can get things set. Call us for more information.

Networking Support

Most of the newer operating systems take care of the details of setting up and using networks, but occasionally problems develop. You might need advice on whether to use CAT 5 or CAT 6. There might be questions about going wireless or wired, or what to buy for your computers to hook them together. Whatever the question, we'll give you the straight scoop. It doesn't even have to involve buying something from us - we're more concerned about you getting the right set up than selling you something.

Selection and Use of Hardware

Whether it's a 'toaster' from a big box store or a custom built machine, we'll tell you what we think of the available options for the job you are going to be doing. We'll also help with cost versus performance issues. If a toaster is what you need, we don't hesitate to recommend it. If you want an improvement in speed, we've got that covered for you. Maybe all you need is a graphics card, or an external hard drive. We will give you the benefit of our expertise in making the choices.

Marketing Your Business or Hobby with Websites

This is something that most computer people cannot help with, because they only know the machine or the programs. They don't necessarily know how to use the tools to promote a business or spread the word about a hobby. A website, no matter how artistic and flashy, is no good if it cannot be found. It's even worse if the site is found and doesn't effectively communicate your company's features and benefits so a potential customer wants to buy. A fancy computer does not guarantee sales. The tools have to be sharp and focused in order for them to work properly.

Backing Up or Copies

Always, always have at least two copies of your data. This can be hard to do if you have a lot of data. Tech Support is getting ready to offer a Back Up Service where you can either bring in a hard copy of your important files (like on a thumb drive or external drive) or we can do it automatically by connecting online. Sort of like the cloud, but personal, local and at a place you can visit. It will take us a while to get things set up, but call us if you're interested.
